December 21, 2011
It’s been a year of great growth for OST. 2011 saw 35 new hires of some of the brightest minds in the industry; a big slap in the face to the recession. Now, even as the calendar year winds down, our ever-diligent senior recruiters are gearing up for a new round of hiring in 2012. I’m not personally in-the-know as to who some of the major applicants are, but I would like to recommend a candidate of my own: Santa Claus. I think Mr. Kringle would be a great fit for OST. Allow me to list the ways:
- Santa is the Best at what he does (I’m pretty sure he’s also the only person who does what he does, but let’s not be cynical.): Santa Claus is the epitome of speed and efficiency. The guy breaks into 1,178 homes every SECOND. This includes squeezing down the chimney, stuffing the stockings, chugging the milk and then mounting up the sleigh again. He would be a perfect fit at a company full of 1%ers who constantly beat deadlines and impress their clients with innovation in spades.
- Santa would only add to the Jolliness of OST: When he wasn’t working, it’s easy to imagine how Mr. Claus would fit right in with the jolly company culture: trading jokes with the sales team, shuffleboarding with developers, “helping” Lisa restock the candy and “ho, ho, ho-ing” while sharing lunch in the kitchen.
- Santa is generous: When it comes to philanthropy, Santa Claus has a stellar resume. I think he’d be happy to know that his potential employer also has a great track record of giving back to the community. This year, OST employees served dinner once a month at the Supper House, participated as sponsors at the Metro Health and Spectrum Health galas and gave the proceeds of this years Great Chili Cook-Off to Michigan Blood’s “Be the Match” campaign.
- Santa’s good with animals: And you pretty much have to be to control 9 fiesty reindeer. OST has also been an advocate of furry friends this year by sponsoring the rooftop Zoo-B-Q event (with donations going to John Ball’s JUMP program.) and who could forget “Bring your Dog to Work Day?” Seriously. I’d put some of those pooches on the naughty list…
Hard-working, jolly and personable, Santa Claus would fit in well with the other employees of OST. Let’s just presume he has an in-depth understanding of application development.
‘Tis the season to be merry. So Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
