It seems as though everybody is throwing around the word epic, to the point that some have even banished it for overuse! Google-ing the four-letter adjective yields searches of ‘epic fail’, ‘epic games’, ‘epic healthcare’ and ‘epic 4g’, but nowhere in the top few pages can you find an entry for ‘epic companies.’ For OST, Epic means 2 things: our healthcare technology services and the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce E.P.I.C. award, which stands for Entrepreneurial, Progressive, Innovative and Collaborative. This year, we are greatly honored to announce that Open Systems Technologies is a finalist in the Excellence in Business category. What does it take to win an EPIC award? An answer from the GRACC:
“The EPIC Award recognizes businesses and individuals that support the community, demonstrate growth, are innovative, and have worked with others as mentors and collaborators”
While becoming a finalist for awards like these is great, we find it more enjoyable to be among friends standing on the podium. Another finalist is Michigan Blood; an independent, non-profit blood bank that operates in nine permanent donation sites and 3,700 mobile blood drives statewide, providing 110,000 pints of blood for 36 hospitals around Michigan’s Lower Peninsula each year! Now that’s pretty epic.
Vying for the award in the ‘Non-Profit of the Year’ category is Kids’ Food Basket a local food provider for children. Kids’ Food basket has been attacking children’s hunger in the Grand Rapids area by providing healthy and easy to access sack suppers to 4,800 children– every single day – now that’s epic. It comes as no surprise to us that this organization has made it to this level; their real impact is not just with providing food, but in providing an excellent engine for volunteering. 170 volunteers every day pack and ship sack suppers for children, who then are empowered to work for good in their own community (25% of volunteers are under 18 years of age).
We are proud to have been chosen as a finalist in this years’ competition, and it is with great honor that we find ourselves among other ‘epic’ organizations in Grand Rapids.
Full Disclosure: Michigan Blood is a valued client of OST
